Praeruptorin E is a coumarin derivative that has shown to have selective cytotoxic effects on human tumor cells. It inhibits the activity of cytochrome P450 3A4, which is an enzyme that metabolizes drugs in the liver and intestines. This inhibitor prevents the metabolism of other drugs, including those used for cancer treatment. Praeruptorin E can be used as a preventive measure against HIV infection by blocking HIV-1 protease and preventing the release of infectious virus particles. It also has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and reduce cervical cancer growth rates in mice. Praeruptorin E is extracted from peucedanum root, a Chinese herb that has been used traditionally for its anti-inflammatory properties.
