Descripción

Pentafluoroacetone is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of methylating agents. It is used in pharmaceutical preparations as an intermediate or reagent, as well as in the production of acrylates, phenol, and other compounds. Pentafluoroacetone reacts with hydrogen chloride to produce hydrofluoric acid (HF) and hydrochloric acid (HCl). The reaction yield is high for this process. Pentafluoroacetone reacts with chlorine atoms to produce hydrogen chloride and pentachlorofluorocarbons (CClFCl), which are used in refrigerants. Pentafluoroacetone also reacts with proton to produce a hydroxyl group. This reaction yields the structural formula for pentafluoroacetic acid. The hydroxyl group can be reacted with electron-rich molecules such as alcohols, amines, or thiols to form esters, amides, or thioesters respectively.
