Phenyltrifluorosilane is a fluorinated hydrocarbon that can be used as a coating material. The phenyl groups on the molecule bind to the surface of the substrate, while the hydroxyl group provides solubility and prevents it from reacting with other materials. Phenyltrifluorosilane has been shown to be effective in preventing cleavage products from accumulating in reaction vessels by forming an inert layer on the surface. The fate of covid-19 pandemic influenza virus was investigated using phenyltrifluorosilane as a coating, which showed increased resistance to cleavage products and reduced reactivity with water. Phenyltrifluorosilane is also used as a building block in supramolecular chemistry and can form complexes with nitrogen atoms and aromatic hydrocarbons.
