Perfluoro-C8-14-alkylalcohols (PFCAs) are a group of fluorinated chemicals found in the environment, including household dust. The PFCAs are structurally similar to one another and possess various degrees of toxicity. They are not naturally occurring substances, but rather man-made chemicals that have been used extensively in industrial processes. They can be found in consumer products such as nonstick cookware and food packaging materials, as well as carpets, furniture, and clothing. Although they have been detected globally, PFCAs are not currently regulated by any international treaties. However, the chemical structures of these compounds can be determined through scientific analysis.
