Pentafluoroethyl phenyl ketone is a reactive, perfluorinated compound that is used in the synthesis of acrylates. It can be synthesized by reacting pentafluoroethyl acetate with selenium dioxide. Pentafluoroethyl phenyl ketone is also known as 1-pentafluoroethyl-1-phenylethane. It has a high resistance to acid and alkali, making it suitable for use on metal surfaces.
Pentafluoroethyl phenyl ketone reacts with trifluoroacetic acid in the presence of light to produce trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, which can then be used in the synthesis of other fluorinated compounds. Pentafluoroethyl phenyl ketone can also be used as a precursor to other reactive compounds such as perfluorinated or fluorine compounds.
