Potassium cyclohexyltrifluoroborate is a highly reactive and toxic inorganic compound. It is a cross-coupling reagent used to synthesize organic compounds that contain carbon-carbon double bonds. It reacts with amines to produce amides, with alcohols to produce esters, and with Grignard reagents to produce ketones. Monitoring the reaction can be done by observing the reaction intermediates or functional groups in the product, or by using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry or zirconium light resistance techniques. Potassium cyclohexyltrifluoroborate has been shown to react with magnesium metal in anhydrous conditions, producing hydrogen gas and magnesium fluoride as reaction products.
