1,1,1,2,2-Pentafluoro-2-(2,2,2-Trifluoroethoxy)Ethane is a fluorinated ether that is used as a propellant in aerosol cans. It has been shown to be an ozone depleting substance and has been classified as such by the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. This chemical has been linked to increased cases of lung cancer. 1,1,1,2,2-Pentafluoro-2-(2,2,2-Trifluoroethoxy)Ethane is also toxic to animals and humans because it can cause liver damage and interfere with the body's ability to fight infections.
