2-Quinolin-2-ylindene-1,3-dione is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have carcinogenic potential in laboratory studies. It is also highly toxic in animal studies and has genotoxic effects. 2-Quinolin-2-ylindene-1,3-dione is an inhibitor of DNA polymerase and blocks the synthesis of DNA by binding to the enzyme's active site. It also inhibits RNA synthesis by binding to the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. This inhibition leads to cell death as a consequence of lack of protein synthesis and other vital functions. The acute toxicity of 2-quinolin-2-ylindene 1,3 dione has not been determined yet but it may be expected to be high.
