It has been found to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and may be useful in the treatment of cancers. 7-Quinolinecarboxaldehyde is synthesized by formylation of 7-hydroxyquinoline with methanol followed by dehydration with formic acid. The compound can also be prepared from a reaction between 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine and quinoline. The synthesis methods for this compound are vibrational, thermodynamic, and molecular electrostatic potential. 7-Quinolinecarboxaldehyde is stable at room temperature but reacts violently with water or moisture.
