6-Bromo-3-hydroxy-pyrazine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester is a chemical intermediate that can be used for the synthesis of antiviral drugs. The compound has been shown to inhibit the replication of viruses in test tubes, and is also active against HIV. 6-Bromo-3-hydroxy-pyrazine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester was synthesized by reacting bromoacetic acid with 3-(4,4,5,5,-tetramethyl-[1,3,2]dioxaborolan-2yl)pyridine. The compound was then purified by recrystallization from methanol and water. 6Bromo -3 hydroxy pyrazine 2 carboxylic acid methyl ester has antiviral activity and can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of antiviral drugs.
