Romifidine HCl is a drug that belongs to the class of centrally acting alpha-2 adrenergic agonists. It is an anti-diabetic drug with a profile of action similar to that of clonidine. It is used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of respiratory diseases and disorders, including bronchitis and asthma. Romifidine HCl has been shown to improve systolic blood pressure in insulin-resistant rats. The drug also has antiviral effects against influenza virus by inhibiting replication in cell culture, as well as effects on energy metabolism and cardiac function.
