Rubrene is a molecule that belongs to the class of polycyclic aromatic compounds. It has been found to be a good fluorescent dye for use in polymer films and can emit light when excited by a laser. Rubrene emits light at 616 nm, which is in the red region of the spectrum. The wavelength range can be varied by adding other molecules with different chemical properties. Rubrene has been shown to be genotoxic when exposed to hydrogen bromide or trifluoroacetic acid, but it is not sensitive to ultraviolet radiation or heat. Rubrene is chemically stable and does not degrade easily, making it an optimum choice for use as a fluorescent dye in polymer films.
