Descripción:Sodium periodate is a chemical compound that is made up of sodium and periodic acid. It is an oxidant and can be used as a disinfectant. Sodium periodate has been shown to react with water molecules to form hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydroxide. The reaction also produces heat, which may be used for sterilization purposes. Sodium periodate is commonly used in the production of human immunoglobulin, which is used to treat autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. It has also been shown to have potential as a fluorescence probe for acidic compounds in water vapor.
