Sodiummesitylenesulfonate is a water-soluble salt that has functional groups consisting of an ethyl group and a sulfonic acid. It is used as a solute in the chemical industry, where it functions as a delignifying agent to remove lignin from cellulose. Sodiummesitylenesulfonate can be used to produce diazonium salts in organic solvents, which are used in bactericidal applications. This compound has been shown to have bactericidal effects on Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus.
