L-Serine Hydrochloride is a naturally occurring amino acid that is a precursor to other amino acids. L-Serine Hydrochloride is used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis, and has been shown to be effective in clinical studies of patients with viral hepatitis. L-Serine Hydrochloride interferes with the virus's ability to replicate by binding to its receptor site, thereby inhibiting replication. It also inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids by blocking the enzyme serine protease, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of phospholipids. L-Serine Hydrochloride also prevents the formation of nitrosamines by reacting with nitrites which are produced from nitrates in food or water.
