Descripción

Styrene is a colorless, flammable gas with a sweet odor that belongs to the group of aromatic hydrocarbons. Styrene is produced by the polymerization of ethene. The reaction mechanism is believed to involve steric interactions between the reactants and styrene monomers. The kinetics of styrene polymerization have been studied extensively and are used for the prediction of concentrations in a system. Furthermore, styrene has been shown to be toxic to humans and animals in high doses. Styrene also affects skin cells by increasing lipid peroxidation, which may result in oxidative stress and inflammation.
