Sodium molybdate is used to treat metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus, because it increases the absorption of glucose from the intestine and stimulates the production of insulin by pancreatic cells. In addition, sodium molybdate has been shown to be useful for treating Wilson's disease, which results from copper accumulation in the liver. This drug also has potential applications in industrial processes involving hydrogen bonding interactions.
