Sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide is a chemical compound with the chemical formula NaH(SiMe3). It is a solid catalyst that is used to produce polymers. It is a colorless solid and has a melting point of -41°C. Sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide contains one hydroxyl group in its structure and can be synthesized by reacting hydrochloric acid with cyclopentene oxide. The isolated yield of sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide is relatively low, at about 40%. Sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide has an FT-IR spectrum with peaks at 2800 cm-1 and 1690 cm-1. The group p2 on the periodic table indicates it is an alkali metal salt, which makes it soluble in water.
