Sodium ethyl sulfate is a cationic surfactant that is used to reduce the surface tension of water and as an emulsifier. Sodium ethyl sulfate has been shown to have potential to serve as a biomarker for allergic reactions, based on animal experiments. It also inhibits metalloprotease activity in vitro and may be used as a cross-linking agent in particle preparation.
