Sodium chlorite is a chemical compound with the molecular formula NaClO2. It can be used as an antimicrobial agent in wastewater treatment and as a reactive agent in analytical chemistry. Sodium chlorite is a strong oxidizing agent that reacts with other compounds to release chlorine atoms. It has been shown to have carcinogenic potential, but it has also been shown to have antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. The surface methodology of sodium chlorite was studied using thermodynamic data from laser ablation and plasma mass spectrometry.
