Sodium pentafluorobenzenesulfonate is classified as an alkylating agent and has been used to prepare cyclopentadienyl ligands for metal halide catalysts. The hydroxyl group on the molecule is utilized in the preparation of polyolefins and surfactants. This chemical can be synthesized by reacting trialkylsilyl chloride with benzene and haloalkylbenzene.
