Descripción:Squalene is a triterpene used as an excipient in drug delivery systems and vaccines. Due to its high biocompatibility, it acts as an emulsifier to help solubilize the drug and, thus, enhance cell uptake. It is involved in various metabolic routes, such as a precursor of cholesterol and steroid hormones. Squalene also has anti-inflammatory properties and may be effective against oxidative injury. It also has a hypoglycemic effect, which may be due to its inhibition of glucose oxidation. Squalene can act as an inhibitor for certain enzymes, including epoxidase activity, and it also binds to transcriptional regulators.
