N-Succinimidyl (4-iodoacetyl)aminobenzoate is a chemical that possesses a variety of structural and functional properties. It has been shown to be effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with the mechanism of action being through the conjugation of 4-iodoacetyl aminobenzoic acid to the bacterial cell wall. This leads to an increase in the permeability of the cell membrane, leading to death by osmotic lysis. The compound also has anti-cancer effects, which may be due to its inhibition of protein synthesis or DNA replication in cancer cells. N-Succinimidyl (4-iodoacetyl)aminobenzoate is also used as a model system for studying chemical reactions involving carbonyl groups and alkynyl groups.
