• Descripción: The enzyme cysteine dioxygenase catalyzes the oxidation of cysteine to form sulfinic acid and thiocyanate. The reaction is accompanied by the release of an electron from NADH, which is subsequently used in the reduction of nitrate to nitrite. The enzyme has regulatory effects on the level of nitrate that is present in cells. It has been found that sodium thiophosphate hydrate can inhibit this enzyme and prevent the release of electrons, thereby preventing bacterial growth. This compound also provides a means for accessing proteins and polypeptides at different pH levels. Sodium thiophosphate hydrate is also involved in proteomics studies, as it can be used as a standard for quantifying protein content in cells. This compound is not toxic to humans and does not have any known serious side effects.
