• Descripción: Sulfisoxazole is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of sulfa drugs. It is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to its active form, sulfadiazine. Sulfisoxazole has been shown to cause neuronal death in rats, with the reaction mechanism being related to its ability to react with sulfhydryl groups on enzymes involved in neurotransmission and cell metabolism. Sulfisoxazole also has high resistance against most bacteria, making it an ideal drug for wastewater treatment and analytical methods. In addition, sulfisoxazole has been shown to have physiological effects such as lowering blood sugar levels and inhibiting erythrocyte aggregation.
