It also acts as a buffer, reducing the hydrochloric acid content in molten glass. Sodium metatungstate hydrate can be prepared by heating tungsten trioxide with sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide. The reaction time and detection time depend on how much water is present in the mixture.
