Spiramycin adipate is a drug that belongs to the group of antibiotics. It is a macrolide antibiotic which inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. Spiramycin adipate has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on experimental septicemia in animals and is effective against Streptococcus species. Spiramycin adipate also has a synergistic effect with erythromycin, which may be due to its hydroxyl group, which binds to the 16S ribosomal RNA in bacteria and prevents protein synthesis.
