Z-L-serine benzyl ester is a synthetic, water soluble compound that can be used as an intermediate in the preparation of conjugates. It has been shown to stimulate epidermal growth and promote wound healing. Z-L-serine benzyl ester is a precursor for the synthesis of d-xylose, which is used in biological function. The chloride ion binds to the molecule and forms a trisaccharide, which can be analyzed with microscopic studies. This substance has also been shown to have phosphatidylcholine lipase activity, which can be measured using techniques such as electron microscopy.
