Sumaresinolic acid is a natural product that has been identified as a potent inhibitor of HIV-1. It was also shown to inhibit the growth of Hl-60 cells, which are a cell line from human promyelocytic leukemia. Sumaresinolic acid contains hydroxyl groups and an acetate extract, which is the most active form of this compound. The structure of sumaresinolic acid was determined by NMR spectroscopy. This compound can be used for diagnostic purposes and as an antimicrobial agent against muscle diseases and viruses.
