Silver Heptafluorobutyrate is a silver ion that has been shown to bind to DNA sequences, which prevents the binding of proteins and prevents their enzymatic activity. Silver ions are also able to decouple double stranded DNA into single strand DNA. The viscosity of a solution containing silver ions is increased, which may be due to the formation of aggregates. Silver Heptafluorobutyrate can be used as an inorganic surface coating to prevent corrosion, because it is not soluble in organic solvents and does not form stable complexes with organic molecules.
