1,3,5-Trimethylpyrazole is a model system for the study of reactions in organic solvents. It can be used to investigate the mechanism of bifunctional reactions and their kinetic parameters. Trimethylpyrazole reacts with 3-methylpyrazole in the presence of a carbon source to form a condensation product. The reaction mechanism is thought to involve hydrogen bonding between the nitrogen atoms on 3-methylpyrazole and trimethylpyrazole. This reaction has been studied using X-ray diffraction techniques that have shown that an isomeric mixture of products is formed during this process. The vaporisation of 1,3,5-trimethylpyrazole has been investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).
