6-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-indole-2,3-dione (TFI) is an active compound that belongs to the group of oxindoles. This compound has been shown to have a chlorine atom at the 6-position, which is essential for its pharmacophore and antimalarial activity. TFI can also be used to synthesize other compounds with different substituents at the 6-position. The chiral nature of this chemical structure makes it possible to produce two stereoisomers. The TFI receptor affinity in erythrocytes is due to hydrogen bonds formed between oxygen atoms in the carbonyl group and nitrogen atoms in the amino group of glutathione reductase, which are essential for enzyme function.
