1,2,4-Thiadiazole-3,5-diamine (1,2,4TDA) is a congestive heart failure experimental model that has been shown to have protective effects on the heart. 1,2,4TDA reduces oxidative stress and prevents cell death by inhibiting energy metabolism and increasing the production of growth factors. The model system was used to test the hypothesis that silver ions can induce cardiac dysfunction in rats. It was found that sodium hydroxide solution increased the incidence of congestive heart failure in rats with pre-existing renal disease. The carotid artery hypoxia model has been shown to be an effective model for studying the effects of this drug on energy metabolism and neuroprotection in rats.
