Thiazolidine-2-carboxylic acid is an aldoxime-type amino acid that is synthesized by the condensation of malonic acid and hydrogen fluoride in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid. It has been used as a substrate for studying the enzymatic cleavage of the amide bond, which is important for protein synthesis. Thiazolidine-2-carboxylic acid has also been used to study malonic acid analogs for use as pharmaceutical preparations. Low potency analogs are used as enzyme inhibitors to lower metabolic rate and help treat metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus.
