9,9,9',9'-Tetrakis(4-methylphenyl)-2,2'-bi-9H-fluorene (TPF) is a polyimide with a chemical stability that has been shown to be superior to other polyimides. TPF is used as a coating for implantable devices and as a bonding agent in the manufacture of other polymers. It can also be used to create coatings on silicone rubber. TPF has been shown to have excellent thermal expansion properties and is stable up to 300°C. It also has functional groups that make it suitable for surface modification or grafting onto other surfaces. TPF has been found to be useful in the treatment of systemic hypertension, although its use in this field is limited by its toxicity.
