Tetraphenylphosphoniumphenolate is a functional group with the formula P(OCH)P(OH). It can be used as a reagent in organic synthesis. Tetraphenylphosphoniumphenolate has been shown to react with sodium hydroxide solution and form a reactive mixture that is soluble in methanol and insoluble in water. The product of this reaction is an ether-linked isomeric mixture of phosphonates, which can be characterized by its optical properties.
Tetraphenylphosphoniumphenolate has also been shown to react with polycarbonates, forming quaternary ammonium salts. This reaction will yield phenyl groups as a byproduct.
