It has been detected in the environment at low concentrations and is known to be genotoxic. 1,2,3-Trimethylbenzene can be used for wastewater treatment and in vapor phase water treatment systems. Structural analysis of trimethylbenzene has been completed by solid phase microextraction (SPME) and GC-MS analysis. The preparative hplc method was used to determine the purity of the crude extract. Trifluoroacetic acid was used to acetylate the extract before it was analyzed using preparative hplc.
