This compound is biosynthesized by Basidiomycetes such as Rhizoctonia sp., Phellinus linteus and Diplodia sp. 1,2,4,5-Tetrachloro-3,6-dimethoxybenzene is also used as a precursor for tetrachlorohydroquinone (PCC) that is produced by chlorination of diacetate extract.
