Trisodium Naphthalene-1,3,6-trisulfonate Hydrate is a naphthalene derivative that is used as an antioxidant and a stabilizer in plastics. Trisodium Naphthalene-1,3,6-trisulfonate Hydrate is used in the production of polymers and other organic compounds. It acts as an oxidant in the presence of water or air. The oxidation products are naphthalene and sulfonic acid. This compound has been shown to be activated by chloride ions at pH levels below 4.5 and by sodium ions at pH levels above 7.5. The reaction rate varies with pH levels from 0 to 10 and can be described using a constant at higher pH levels.
