Glimepiride is an oral hypoglycaemic drug that belongs to the group of sulfonylurea drugs. It is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as other conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome and gestational diabetes. Glimepiride has been shown to be more potent than metformin in reducing blood glucose levels. This drug has a low risk of interactions with other drugs, although it may interact with terbinafine hydrochloride, which is an antifungal agent. Glimepiride also targets enzymes involved in the synthesis of toxic epidermal growth factor (EGF) at the cellular level. This drug has been shown to be effective for combination therapy for mycological and angelicae dahuricae infections.
