2,3,4-Trichlorobut-1-ene is a chlorinated compound that is used as a chemical intermediate. It has been detected in the air of chlorine plants and in the air near hazardous waste sites. 2,3,4-Trichlorobut-1-ene is labile and reacts with oxygen to form hydrogen chloride and phosgene. This chemical has shown to be an irritant when inhaled or absorbed through the skin. The reaction rate of 2,3,4-Trichlorobut-1-ene with nitrogen nucleophiles such as amines and hydrazines is faster than its reaction with chlorine atoms. 2,3,4-Trichlorobut-1-ene also has an activation energy of 20 kcal/mol.
