Terpineol can be used as a potential anticancer agent because it inhibits the synthesis of DNA and protein in cells, leading to cell death. This compound also has genotoxic effects on the chromosomes of cultured human lymphocytes, which may be due to its ability to cause DNA strand breaks. Terpineol is found in low concentrations in the atmosphere and is produced by plants as a result of decomposition.
