Thallium(I) cyclopentadienide is a regiospecific, molybdenum-containing compound that can be allylated with chlorine. The chlorides of thallium(I) cyclopentadienide are prepared by the stepwise addition of chlorine to the metal. The monochloride (TlCl), chloride (TlCl), and trichloride (TlCl) have been characterized by x-ray diffraction. The halogeno anion of TlCl has been observed in solution, with the chloride ion as a major product. NMR spectra show three resonances for TlCl and two for TlBr.
