TGN1412 is a monoclonal antibody that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. TGN1412 blocks pro-inflammatory factors, such as IL-2 and IL-6, which are responsible for the inflammatory response. This drug has undergone extensive clinical trials with documentation of its effectiveness and safety. TGN1412 is being developed as a humanized monoclonal antibody and has been approved for use in a number of countries. The drug was voluntarily withdrawn from clinical development following an adverse event during a clinical trial. Patients who received TGN1412 experienced life-threatening blood clots, fevers, chills, and headaches within minutes of receiving the drug. These side effects have been attributed to contamination in the manufacturing process or the presence of another contaminant in the drug product.
