- Pyridine, 2-ethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-
2-Ethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine (2EHT) is a catecholamine that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of proton secretion in the stomach. It was found to form stable complexes with l-phenylalanine and trisubstituted protonated tertiary amines. The mechanism of this inhibition is thought to be intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions between the alpha carbon of 2EHT and the nitrogen atom of the amine. 2EHT forms stable complexes with copper salt, alkylating agents, or amido groups in the presence of salicylaldehyde. The x-ray crystal structures of these complexes have been determined. Spectrometric studies have also been performed to verify these findings.
