Tetradecylthioacetic acid is a molecule that binds to the response element of the gene and inhibits the production of fatty acids, which are one of the main sources of energy for cells. Tetradecylthioacetic acid has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial functions in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and dextran sulfate polymerase chain reaction. It also has an active effect on HIV-1 replication in HL-60 cells. Tetradecylthioacetic acid may be used as a treatment for cardiac diseases with heart failure or artery disease, such as balloon injury, because it can improve cardiac contractility and reduce arrhythmia.
