Tris(p-nitrophenyl)amine is a heterogeneous reagent that is insoluble in water. It has a variety of operational uses, including as a catalyst for the reduction of nitro groups to amines, and as an indicator for the determination of ammonium ions. Tris(p-nitrophenyl)amine can also be used to reduce nitrobenzene to phenol with the use of catalytic reduction. The reaction time is dependent on the concentration of reactants, temperature, and reaction yield. The optical properties of Tris(p-nitrophenyl)amine are dependent on its molecular structure.
