2-Tolylboronic acid pinacol ester is a compound that can be used to synthesize aryl chlorides. It is an unsymmetrical ligand that has two functional groups, chlorides, which are reactive and can be used in cross-coupling reactions. 2-Tolylboronic acid pinacol ester can also be used in Suzuki coupling reactions with palladium as a catalyst. This reaction produces biaryls by reacting the aryl boronate with an organometallic reagent. The yields of this reaction are dependent on the type of organometallic reagent used.
