1-(2-thienyl)-2-nitroethene is a nitroethene derivative that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It has potent inhibitory activity against the PC3 cell line, which is resistant to anticancer drugs. 1-(2-Thienyl)-2-nitroethene inhibits the production of squaramide, an antimicrobial agent that is used as a fungicide and antibiotic. The mechanism of action for this compound is not yet well understood but it may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis or inhibit protein synthesis. 1-(2-Thienyl)-2-nitroethene also has an acidic nature, which may contribute to its anti-cancer effects.
