Thiabendazole is a benzimidazole compound that is used in the treatment of parasitic infections. It is an inhibitor of the electron transport system, which reduces ATP production and leads to cell death. Thiabendazole has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which are due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. This drug also has a potential role in genetic transformation as it has been shown to induce bcl-2 protein expression in squamous cell carcinomas. Thiabendazole can be used for the treatment of various animal diseases such as coccidiosis, canine heartworm disease, and sheep rot (a type of infectious disease).
